Travel for Teachers
As part of my experience as a Teacher for Global Classrooms fellow, I travelled to Jakarta, Indonesia. While there, I spent to two weeks learning about the Indonesian education system and history, and visited schools where I observed and taught classes. Most of my time was spent at MAN 4 (Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 4 Jakarta). MAN 4 is an international high school, and a model school for other high schools in Jakarta. A Madrasah is a public school that is also a religious school. It was an amazing experience. Jakarta is located on the island of Java, and is 90 percent Muslim. At the end of my trip, I was able to extend my travels in Indonesia at my own expense. Traveling to the island of Bali gave me another perspective of the country, because it is 94 percent Hindu/Buddhist.
Below is a link to my travel blog, and links to other resources for teachers to look beyond their own backyards by traveling to other countries; broadening their experiences and giving them first-hand experience to think and teach globally.
